A second study showed that women who have been slapped, kicked or otherwise abused were four times more likely to report severe depressive symptoms and three times more likely to report fair or poor health.For their study, Thompson and colleagues interviewed a random sample of more than 3,400 women members of a Seattle health maintenance organization.They found 44 percent of the women, aged 18 to 64, had suffered some form of what they call "intimate partner violence." Most reported more than one type — for example, physical violence and verbal threats.Of the women who were abused, 13 percent said it had persisted for more than 20 years.

In the great nation of Emperor Penguins, deep in Antarctica, you’re nobody unless you can sing--which is unfortunate for Mumble, who is the worst singer in the world. He is born dancing to his own tune--tap dancing. Though Mumble’s mom, Norma Jean, thinks this little habit is cute, his dad, Memphis, says it “just ain’t penguin.” Besides, they both know that, without a Heartsong, Mumble may never find true love. As fate would have it, his one friend, Gloria, happens to be the best singer around. Mumble and Gloria have a connection from the moment they hatch, but she struggles with his strange “hippity- hoppity” ways. Mumble is just too different--especially for Noah the Elder, the stern leader of Emperor Land, who ultimately casts him out of the community. Away from home for the first time, Mumble meets a posse of decidedly un-Emperor-like penguins--the Adelie Amigos. Led by Ramon, the Adelies instantly embrace Mumble’s cool dance moves and invite him to party with them. In Adelie Land, Mumble seeks the counsel of Lovelace the Guru, a crazy-feathered Rockhopper penguin who will answer any of life’s questions for the price of a pebble. Together with Lovelace and the Amigos, Mumble sets out across vast landscapes and, after some epic encounters, proves that by being true to yourself, you can make all the difference in the world.

在冰天雪地一望無際的南極洲冰原，每一隻企鵝都靠美妙清脆的歌聲來尋找他(她)的心靈伴侶，要是不會唱歌的話，恐怕就一無是處囉，但是這種機率幾乎連百萬分之一都不到，可是波波卻不幸地是那百萬分之一的小企鵝（由伊利亞伍德配音），他的歌聲是全世界最難聽的，不過他卻是一個天生的踢踏舞高手，每當他高興的時候，他的腳總會不由自主的踏出快樂的旋律，但是這樣的才能卻被他的族人們認為是一種奇怪的行為，每次他高興踏著舞步的時候，總是被族中的長老們冷眼對待，更有長老認為這是族裡漁獲減少的天譴之一。

雖然波波的媽媽諾瑪珍（由妮可基嫚配音），認為兒子的小習慣還滿可愛的，但是他的爸爸曼菲斯（由休傑克曼配音）就說這樣「根本就不像企鵝嘛！」，況且，他們夫妻倆都心裡有數，要是連一首心靈之歌也沒有的話，波波可能永遠找不到他的真愛。

命運可真是愛捉弄人啊！波波心中最喜歡的母企鵝葛莉亞（由布蘭妮墨非配音），碰巧是全國最會唱歌的年輕企鵝，她的追求者眾多，唱不出歌的波波在她的面前只能自慚形穢。不過，從剛孵化出來的那一刻開始，波波和葛莉亞就互相關心了，可是她經常要耐著性子接受他特有的詭異舞步。

波波實在是太與眾不同了，尤其在長老諾哈（由雨果威明配音）的眼中更是怪異無比，他是帝王企鵝村中冷酷的領袖，最後終於還是決議將波波逐出帝王企鵝的村莊了。

從未離鄉背井的波波，遇上了一群和帝王企鵝截然不同的小個子企鵝──阿德利企鵝，牠們是一群自稱2266喜歡瘋狂與冒險的死黨。阿德利企鵝的頭兒是拉蒙（由羅賓威廉斯配音），他們一看到波波的酷炫舞步就為之瘋狂，馬上邀請他加入他們的團體，並參加派對一起狂歡。

但是在歡樂的背後，波波心中總有個疑惑，漁獲量減少難道真的是他造成的？他擅長踢踏舞的雙腳是否真的會招來不幸？偶爾出現在海平面上的大型鐵殼船，那到底是什麼？有些鳥說這些是”外星人”的交通工具，他們野蠻，對待動物的手段毫不文明！於是波波決定查明真相，他要知道是什麼樣的生物帶走了大量的魚群，危害了他的族群。

於是勇敢的波波死命地追逐著鐵殼船，他一路吶喊著要求人類將食物還給企鵝，他奮力游到溫暖的海域，到了人類的世界，不料卻進了動物園。隔著玻璃又語言不通的波波與人類，終究還是無法溝通，但是波波的踢踏舞，竟然引起人類對這支企鵝族群的好奇。

勇敢的波波是否能夠感動人類，他能否用他小小的力量改變全世界？意志力堅強，始終相信自己的波波將讓你看到一隻平凡的企鵝，展現出最不平凡的勇氣和毅力。
